Jakarta, katasulsel.com — The tension in the Gaza Strip has reached new heights following Israel’s announcement of its intention to invade Rafah, the southernmost city in the region, in its operation against the Hamas militia. Hamas has warned that this assault could disrupt negotiations for the release of hostages with Israel.

A Hamas leader, who preferred to remain anonymous, told AFP that any attack on Rafah could halt negotiations for the exchange of hostages. Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed his forces to prepare to enter the city with the aim of ousting Hamas.

Despite concerns about its impact on displaced civilians, Netanyahu affirmed that Israel would provide a safe passage for residents wishing to leave Rafah. Israel’s air and ground attacks in the Gaza Strip since October have claimed many lives, while Hamas has also taken Israeli citizens as hostages.

Meanwhile, negotiations are underway in Cairo to temporarily halt the fighting and free the hostages still held. Hamas reported that two hostages were killed and eight others were injured in recent Israeli attacks. The situation in the Gaza Strip remains tense with uncertainty about the future.
